Guest Lecture by Astute Dispute Resolution at the University of Lausanne’s International Arbitration Course

On 15 April 2025, Astute Dispute Resolution’s Founding Partner, Nhu-Hoang Tran Thang, delivered a class on arbitral proceedings for the second consecutive year as part of the prestigious International Arbitration Course at the University of Lausanne.

The session focused on key aspects of arbitral procedure, including:

  • The distinction between arbitral and court proceedings;

  • The defining features of arbitral flexibility, including the minimalist approach to procedural rules;

  • The recommended content of Procedural Order No. 1;

  • The structure of arbitral proceedings—from the Case Management Conference to post-hearing submissions;

  • The key stages of document production and the submission of witness evidence.

To complement the presentation, Astute Dispute Resolution’s bite-sized videos on key procedural milestones were shared, covering:

Nhu-Hoang notes:

This class was not only a pleasure to teach — it was also an opportunity to explore important questions with students, such as how the parties’ right to be heard interacts with the evolving role of technology in arbitration. The topic of arbitral procedure is foundational, and it opens the door to broader reflections on the very nature of arbitration as a mode of dispute resolution.”

Astute Dispute Resolution remains committed to advancing both the academic and practical dimensions of arbitration. We warmly thank Professor Andrea Bonomi and the University of Lausanne for the kind invitation to share our practitioner insights.
