The ICCA Guide to the 1958 New York Convention — Now Available in French

The International Council for Commercial Arbitration (“ICCA”) Guide to the Interpretation of the 1958 New York Convention is a unique tool designed to assist judges around the world in applying one of the most pivotal instruments in international arbitration.

The Guide’s goal is both practical and universal: to provide a neutral, accessible, and article-by-article analysis of the Convention that can support judges in day-to-day decisions involving the recognition and enforcement of arbitral awards.

In 2024, a Second Edition of the Guide was released, reflecting recent case law and continuing ICCA’s efforts to foster coherent interpretation across jurisdictions.

This year, a French version of the Guide’s Second Edition has been made available for francophone judges.

It was an honor for Astute Dispute Resolution to contribute to this initiative: the French translation of the Guide was prepared by our Founding Partner, Nhu-Hoang Tran Thang.

On 9 April 2025, the translation was presented during Paris Arbitration Week 2025 at the Cour d’appel de Paris, where copies of the Guide were handed to members of the judiciary.

Much respect is due to the ICCA Judicial Committee, whose work empowers national courts to give effect to the Convention with clarity and consistency. Astute’s contribution to this effort was modest—but we hope it will be helpful to judges across the francophone world tasked with applying the Convention in practice.
